Black Metal Reviews: Tvangeste / "FireStorm"
Impressive!! This russian band is the future!! Imagine a mixture between CRADLE OF FILTH, THERION and NIGHTWISH. Includes orchestral arrangements, piano, flute, diferent male and female vocals... everything with an astonishing production and an incredible full colour booklet of the highest quality!! Something spectacular!!
Besides the somewhat weak drum sound this underground band from Russia really impresses me. Couldn't believe my ears once I got into their symphonic black metal, and the memories “Firestorm” brought back. Fact is, this is an album that in my book equals the impressive debut Cradle Of Filth created a decade ago with their “The Principle…”. Obviously one could mistake Tvangeste for being a copycat, but I claim this to be a lie. Tvangeste's songwriting skills are better as a whole. Their songs vary a lot, move in a lot of different directions and draw influences from various styles of music.
However, their heavy black metal is probably not the best you can find (as Limbonic Art can't be overdone) but the way Tvangeste arrange their collaborations with the Baltic Symphonic Orchestra and the Prussian Chamber Choir surely captures my interest. Like in “Birth Of The Hero” the music suddenly twists after 2.15 minutes, where they let the symphonic element take over for a minute. The natural thing would be to go back to the melody they had before this minute, but instead they give us a completely new melody before they finally go back to the main structure of the track. However, to completely go back is not what they do, as they exceed the expression by adding pianos/keyboards.
And so the album goes in all directions, but with the Tvangeste identity all over. In every track there are small details that need time to reveal, but there are also obvious turns that you want to listen to again and again.
That you feel this is a whole-hearted work is not much of a surprise once you see the 24-page booklet done in a most remarkable way. Yes, there are the common photos of each member, but at the same time a painter has painted each member. This creates a different atmosphere compared to most other releases I've seen.
As a whole, you get a symphonic masterpiece of black metal for the open-minded and should absolutely be a natural choice the next time you're going to purchase a different black metal album. But I must warn you, you have to give it time because you could mistake this for being a Cradle Of Filth copy. Tvangeste are Not. (RK)
Formed in 1996, we interviewed these guys in issue 1 of Golden Lake Magazine and right here is their second album. Firestorm comes with a grand opening intro plus seven Therion / Cradle of Filth like black metal tracks. But don't think their music is resumed only by these influences, they went far beyond, and introduced a mix of some complex classical music thanks to the full Baltic symphonic orchestra. What's the result of all this? A very interesting, and orchestral like sound; there are many nice melodies, many flutes, violins, and choirs united with extremely raw vocals (which makes me remember the best performances of Danni Filth). The graphical quality is awesome, the booklet comes in a special paper; the sound quality walks aside it. The best songs are "Fire in your Hearts," and "Godless Freedom" - metal at its best!.
This ever-so surprising label just signs the most impressive bands to their growing roster. This 7-piece was ht right on the head with the explanation of the press sheet on the band as being Therion meets Cradle Of Filth. There's just so much going on here especially in the vocal department. Deep vocals, background chants and baritone vocals, black metal vocals, female vocals and even choir-like stuff. Musically there's tons of heavy riffs, layers of symphonic atmosphere (Sort of like what King Diamond does) with the keys and synths, some flute and at times can be really funeralistic. I didn't know this band even had a debut before this called "Damnation Of Rergiomontum" which is getting the best of me as far as curiosity goes. Tvangeste are just very unique and bring forth an uncommon music valor to the stale mass media. They make alot of these cheesy bands look just terribly silly. Some of the music from Tvangeste was to be used in a Canadian film called "Sinner and Saints" just in case you have seen it around anywhere. You need to hear this stuff, it's just mind-blowing.
This release surely touches perfection from every aspect...It's truly a masterpiece and "Firestorm" is here to please even the most demanding ones. This Prussian quintet managed to deliver an album that reveals the obvious connection of classical music with heavy metal. They call their music "orchestration black metal" and this is what it is!!!! The Baltic Symphonic Orchestra and Prussian Chamber Choir enrich Tvangeste's sound creating an incredible final result. CRADLE OF FILTH (especially on the vocals and the atmosphere) meeting bands such as ANCIENT RITES (on the keyboards) and THERION and all these wrapped up with classical arrangements...and then there is the use of violin, which makes them sound so cryptic and melancholic with the feeling of damnation floating over our heads from the very first second...The production is very good and gives the proper significance to the guitars and drums and yet always in the background keyboards are haunting you and Ekaterina's violin enchants you and leaves you breathless. The lyrics are perfect and it's like a story being unfolded right before your eyes, it's like Miron the vocalist is narrating a story, a story not to be forgotten...Finally, there is the cover artwork I'd like to speak about. It's simply perfect, wonderful, amazing! Surely, one of the best artworks I've ever seen! Great drawings, huge booklet, great cover and I also liked the booklet's paper (it's the first time I see such a cardboard used for an album). I finished the review and yet I think that I wrote too little and that I haven't managed to pass out to you the greatness of this release... Sometimes words are too little to express the beauty of the sound and image...
Tvangeste are known as "The Prussian Treasure" and have already performed with the Baltic Symphony Orchestra. Fans of Therion and Cradle Of Filth will appreciate the timeless, classical layers in this band's intellectualized black metal sound.
Tvangeste are a Russian band hailing from the city of Kaliningrad (Konigsberg) and “FireStorm” is their second official album, after "Blood Dreams" (demo single, 1997), "Thinking..." (demo, 1998), and the full-length debut "Damnation of Regiomontum" (2000). And one thing should be said before anything else - “FireStorm” is simply sensational!
What the young sextet has to offer is symphonic black metal that could make even mammoth bands like Cradle of Filth or Dimmu Borgir fear for their throne in the future. This album is an adventure held out on such a large scale that it is merely amazing. There are 2 keyboardists - Victoria Koulbachnaja (a.o. Dis Pater, Romowe Rikoito, Bleeding Sky) and Naturelle Chirva, as well as 3 guitarists - Nikolay Kazmin (ex-Obsession), Vanoe Mayoroff (ex-Diversion) and vocalist Michael “Miron” Chirva. There is also a smashing rhythm section in the face of Max Naumoff (bass; Equinox, Crack) and session drummer Cezar “Czarek” Mielko (Dominium, Bright Ophidea). And last but not least, on “FireStorm” we get to hear the full Baltic Symphony Orchestra with soloist Ekaterina Sapogova (violin) and the Prussian Chamber Choir with soloist Olaa (female operatic vocals)! Recording at two different studios, the Polish Selani (a.o. Vader, Behemoth, Lux Occulta, Christ Agony, Decapitated, Dies Irae) and TV4 Studios in Kaliningrad, 300 pages of note sheets, etc., etc. - this is a project as ambitious as can be.
As for the results of it, there is no fault to find here at all. Heart-rendering, Vivaldi-scented violin solos, powerful guitar riffs, a variety of vocals from screams (reminding Dani from Crade of Filth), to recitals, to choirs, to female “angelic voices” (though these are few)… The melodic lines change between (heavy) metal fury and soundtrack bombast, and the play of metal and classical music sometimes calls to mind an association with the arrangements from Lacrimosa’s latest albums. “Melodic symphonic black metal” gives only a vague idea of the supreme and refined music we get to hear! Compared to this, Graveworm and the like are nothing but poor wanna-be’s; and to make it a true highlight, there is no coping or cloning other bands at all (the nearest comparison is Cradle of Filth, but Tvangeste are much more symphonic than black metal). “Dramatic” is the keyword for “FireStorm” and the music takes you through a whole story with raging fighting moods and delicate sad passages; “inspiring” describes best the feeling it leaves the listener with. The only thing wrong with it is that the production could be a little better, but even the way it is, this is a splendid album! Don’t hesitate - go get this majestic jewel!
Tvangeste’s debut was an impressive piece of symphonic, dark, deeply afflicted black metal, without those gay fairy-elements. It was a much promising album, yet therefore also one that created huge expectations for the next album! On their new album the band has chosen to walk a more modern path; more thrash guitar arrangements, a very dry mechanical sound of the bassdrums (very tight) and a much better and heavier and more direct sound, and in that respect a change that cannot pass unnoticed. Because of those sound changes the atmosphere has changed within Tvangeste’s music: away from the dark melancholy and more towards a chilling, technical atmosphere. A name that comes into my mind all the time now is The Covenant while becoming the Kovenant. Tvangeste probably made the album that the Kovenant should have made after “Nexus Polaris” if they had not opted for the use of electronics yet had stuck to the usual and classical instruments, it is the best way I can put it…
Opening song ‘Under the Raven’s Black Wings’ is a perfect example of what to expect throughout the album; although this leans somewhat more near the songs of Kovenant’s Animatronic...
Especially the vocals and way of singing of Michael “Miron” Chirva remind me very much of Nagash on “Nexus Polaris”. On the other hand, the influence and role for the female voice is much bigger, and Olaa proves once more what a wonderful soprano voice she has; one of the most powerful and yet fragile I’ve heard in a while.
Although the cover shows 5 persons in the line-up, the bio and booklet mention seven members, plus session musician Ekaterina for the violin parts, and furthermore the Baltic Symphonic Orchestra and Prussian Chamber Choir participated.
In itself it is not so strange that Tvangeste needed all these musicians, as they do with normal instruments what the Kovenant did with keyboards/samples, and I respect it very much that they have taken the trouble of using the real deal in stead of the electronic sampler!
This is especially shown in ‘Birth of the Hero’, where the classical instruments, especially the violin, and vocals (in tone and arrangements) go much more into the classical direction: wonderful! Yet also on this song (or should I say composition?) the bass drums are mixed in very strong, so that it still is heavy and intense. Listen to the use of the choirs for instance!
This policy is maintained on ‘Fire in our Hearts’ and ‘Perkunos Flame’, and I must say, it brings a more organic feeling into the music, which will especially please those who like the classical music arrangements and the violin parts. It gives the songs a softer, more natural groove.
According to the bio this one should be a brilliant killer like Therion and Cradle of Filth: well, indeed it is a killer, yet the one who wrote this knows a lot about marketing and has shit for ears! There is no Cradle influence whatsoever on this album, and same goes for Therion; yes, sure, they both use classical female vocals, but at that point all further resemblances end… At least use names that do come closer: perhaps the comparison with Covenant/Kovenant without electronics and sound elements of Susperia/Dimmu Borgir fits them much better, yet with a very prominent role for Olaa’s soprano voice. But in spite of all these comparisons with the Kovenant, do not think they are a copy or clone for a moment; like said, they picked the same style and development, yet their choice for the use of instruments went into a different direction.
I think Tvangeste have made a great second album, yet too much different from the debut to speak of an evolution; it is more like another direction. Technically it is an improvement indeed, yet that dark mysterious and yet romantic atmosphere has been replaced by a dark mechanic one, and I am not sure whether all old fans will appreciate that. Look at it this way: I am still puzzling which one to like best, and it can go either way… So far Tvangeste made two great albums, yet it depends very much on your mood which one you will prefer. Try to look at this Tvangeste album as the alternative for all those who got disappointed at Kovenant’s third and fourth (like me) album S.E.T.I.; You will love “Firestorm”!

Their music is brightly composed and arranged and it makes all the difference. If you were to take the philharmonic experimentation employed by Therion (« Lepaca kliffoth »), the aggression displayed by Cradle or Illnath (also on World Chaos Prod.) and work it into black and death metal, you would have some hint of what « Firestorm » is all about. Prestate tutti molta attenzione. Probabilmente, quasi sicuramente, il nome Tvangeste non vi dice nulla, del resto non si tratta di una band affermata e blasonata. Eppure, dopo questo secondo loro lavoro, “Firestorm” (che segue di tre anni il debut “Damnation of Regiomontum”), non e accettabile pensare che questa band polacca (nata nel 1996 e composta da tre ragazzi e due ragazze) resti ancora sconosciuta. “Firestorm” e un concept album sulla storia antica della Prussia, la loro terra natale (visitate il sito http://www.tvangeste.com/ per conoscere meglio l’ideologia della band), ed e uno di quei dischi che non si dimenticano, un concentrato di death/black metal evoluto che, a mio modestissimo parere, si pone come una delle migliori release di sempre del genere. Perche, vi chiederete... beh, diciamo che la concezione musicale dei Tvangeste, se da una parte strizza l’occhio ai canoni classici del genere, dall’altro li trascende completamente e, anzi, si propone come nuovo standard per quanto concerne la concezione di “sinfonico” applicata al metal estremo. Gia, sinfonico. Da qualche anno sembra moda assodata ricorrere a orchestre e ensemble classici per arricchire e rendere piu pompose le sonorita piu strettamente metalliche: Cradle of Filth e Dimmu Borgir ne sono un esempio... ma, sinceramente, quante volte vi e passato per la testa il pensiero che, in fondo, l’apporto orchestrale, tanto pubblicizzato a parole, risultava a conti fatti limitato o distaccato, quasi un orpello aggiunto alla fine, in taluni casi superfluo o relegato a un ruolo assolutamente improprio? E non serve limitarsi al genere black per accorgersi di cio. Anche nel power/thrash le cose non vanno meglio, basti pensare a Stratovarius, Malmsteen o agli stessi Metallica (scusate, ma a me, fan di vecchia data degli ormai perduti Four Horsemen, la parentesi sinfonica di S&M era sembrata inutile e imbarazzante, tant’e che pochi dei pezzi riarrangiati meritavano effettivamente un plauso, primo fra questi l’epocale capolavoro “The Call of Ktulu”). I Rage hanno fatto qualcosa di meglio, ma altalenando anche all’interno di uno stesso album risultati piu e meno buoni...
Ora escono allo scoperto questi Tvangeste e in cinquanta minuti stravolgono tutto questo, riuscendo se possibile ad andare ancora piu la nella fusione fra classica/lirica e metal di quanto fatto dai seminali/geniali Therion (da sottolineare che hanno partecipato alla registrazione di “Firestorm” la Baltic Symphony Orchestra e il Prussian Chamber Choir!). Brani veloci, cavalcate e sfuriate in doppia cassa vengono addolciti, incupiti, resi freddi come il gelo e sanguinanti di rosso sangue da quelli che non sono semplici innesti sinfonici, bensi un continuo arrangiamento classico che segue interamente l’album dall’Intro all’Outro. Fa uno strano effetto ascoltare intrecci fra sinuosi e impostati timbri di soprano e il growl maligno e decisamente espressivo del singer Miron, spesso non lontano da quello di Dani Filth, ma questa particolarita, come pure tutte le altre “dissonanze” riscontrabili su “Firestorm”, conferiscono autentica magia a un album capace di raggiungere a momenti apici di intensita di “Morriconiana memoria”...
Qualcuno potra obiettare che forse di metal qui ce n’e meno di quanto ci si potrebbe aspettare, che fra violini e chitarre acustiche il riffing distorto viene relegato in secondo piano, che quel drumming incessante quasi stona con le melodie drammatiche intessute dalla sezione sinfonica... probabilmente “Firestorm” sara quindi un album destinato a dividere la critica, ammesso che venga degnato della considerazione che merita... io mi schiero semplicemente dalla parte di coloro che lo ritengono un capolavoro.
Bereits auf "Damnation of Regiomontum" prasentierten TVANGESTE aus Kaliningrad ihre Talent, Schwarzmetall mit orchestralen klassischen Elementen zu vereinen. Auf ihrem "FireStorm" bringen sie dieses nun zur Perfektion und werden hierbei von Chor und Symphonieorchester unterstutzt. Die Schwarzmetall-Komponente spielt hierbei wortlich nicht "die erste Geige", ausgedehnte neo-klassische Passagen beherrschen das Bild, und Parallelen zu Bands wie HAGGARD, THERION oder HOLLENTHON sind nicht zu ignorieren. Hierbei kann besonders die "Geigenarbeit" gelobt werden, da sie deutlich raffinierter ausgefallen ist als eine simple gleichformige "Riffbegleitung" der Gitarrenwand (wie das sonst ja leider oft der Fall ist).
TVANGESTE vergessen die schwarzmetallischen Elemente jedoch keineswegs, hier kommen spontan Erinnerungen an neuere Werke von CRADLE OF FILTH auf, ein Eindruck, der durch den abwechslungsreichen, ja zeitweise dialog-ahnlichen mannlichen Gesang noch verstarkt wird. Anspieltipps zu geben fallt bei der durchgehend hohen Qualitat des TVANGESTE-Sounds schwer, doch haben das fesselnde "Birth of the Hero" und das episch-wehmutige "Storm" sicherlich einen etwas hoheren Wiedererkennungswert. Bei dieser Schwierigkeit liegt gleichzeitig auch der einzige winzige Kritikpunkt an "FireStorm": die Songs sind allesamt abwechslungsreich und ziemlich ausgedehnt, doch kommen sie vom kompositorischen Charakter her noch nicht ganz an die Werke der obengenannten Bands heran.
Das akustische Gesamtbild von "FireStorm" kann jedoch ohne schlechtes Gewissen als "bombastisch" gewurdigt werden. Wer eine wirklich stilvolle und gelungene Verschmelzung von Stromgitarren und Orchester sucht, wird sich der dramatischen Kunst TVANGESTEs nicht entziehen konnen (geschweige denn wollen!).
In Russland soll es ja eine riesige Metal-Szene in allen Genres geben, von der man hier allerdings so gut wie gar nichts mitbekommt. Nun schicken sich also TVANGESTE an, mit ihrem zweiten Album Firestorm die Aufmerksamkeit der restlichen Welt zu erringen.
Stilistisch versucht man es da mit orchestralem Black Metal, im Info-Sheet als Mischung zwischen Cradle Of Filth und Therion angepriesen. Das kommt sogar in etwa hin, den Sanger Miron klingt haargenau wie der kleine Bruder von Dani (wie, noch kleiner?), erreicht allerdings nicht ganz dessen Stimmumfang. An einigen Stellen werden zudem weibliche Vocals eingebaut, die doch sehr nach Sarah Jezebel klingen. Ansonsten hat man keine Kosten und Muhen gescheut und neben einem Kammer-Chor auch noch gleich das ganze Baltische Sinfonie Orchester ins Studio geschleppt. Diese versammelte Klassik-Kompetenz deckt dann den mehr melodischeren (Therion-) Teil ab; wie nicht anders zu erwarten war in hervorragender Qualitat. Der metallische Teil hingegen bewegt sich in der Tat im opulent-ausschwelgendem Black Metal-Bereich, wobei man zum Gluck auf zu viele abstruse Tempi- und Riffwechsel verzichtet hat.
Leider werden es TVANGESTE hier trotzdem schwer haben, denn gerade der Metal-Bereich kommt bedauerlicher Weise nicht so souveran und originell daher wie gewunscht. Viele Riffs hat man doch schon haufiger gehort oder sind einfach zu nichtssagend. Man verlasst sich sehr auf Orchester und Chor, aber die konnen halt auch nicht alle Kastanien aus dem Feuer holen. Das bezieht auf fast das gesamte Songwriting, welches die vorhandenen Moglichkeiten viel zu selten konsequent ausnutzt. Erst mit dem funften Stuck Perkuno's Flame gefallt mir das ganze etwas besser, vorher fuhle ich mich doch manchmal mehr an Rhapsody als an black metal erinnert. Aber dann gelingt die Synthese aus Klassik und Metal auf einmal deutlich vorteilhafter, und es wird nun tatsachlich eine dustere, geheimnisvolle Atmosphare erzeugt. Vielleicht liegt es auch an dem sehr schonen, getragen Zwischenteil, der nur mit Geige und gesampletem Wetterleuchten dunkle Akzente setzt, wohingegen der Rest des Tracks eher fixerer Natur ist.
Gut gefallen mir auch die beiden letzten Stucke, Storm und Tears Will Wash Off The Blood From My Sword. Bei dem ersten gefallt mir das Zusammenspiel zwischen Orchester und Gitarren recht gut, so dass das Stuck sowohl ziemlich bombastisch als auch recht heavy ruberkommt. Der letzte Song des Albums gefallt mir dann eigentlich am besten; hier wird endlich mal mit etwas schrageren Elementen gearbeitet und so die ganze Bandbreite der vorhandenen musikalischen Moglichkeiten deutlich besser ausgenutzt. Kurios finde ich hier jedoch, dass man ein ganzes Orchester an der Hand hat, aber trotzdem noch Streicher-Samples aus dem Rechner verwendet...
TVANGESTE verkaufen sich aber insgesamt betrachtet nur musikalisch etwas unter Wert, denn man merkt der gesamten CD schon an, wieviel Arbeit und Hingabe die durchaus fahigen Musiker dort hineingesteckt haben. So wird dem Kaufer neben der guten Produktion und der Musik auch ein uberdickes und aufwendig gestaltetes Booklet in sehr schoner Aufmachung geboten, was ja heutzutage eher die Ausnahme darstellt. Zudem gibt es ein textlich recht interessantes und inhaltlich zumindest noch nicht ausgelutschtes Text-Konzept, welches historische preu?ische Sagen behandelt. Da kriege ich fast schon ein schlechtes Gewissen, weil ich nur 7 Punkte vergeben kann...
Allerdings sollte sich niemand davon abschrecken lassen, hier nicht zumindest mal ein Ohr zu riskieren. Denn wer Cradle nicht mehr horen kann und Therion lieber deutlich harter mag, fur den stellen die 5 Damen und Herren aus Russland eine nicht zu unterschatzende Alternative dar!
Vraiment classe !. Apres un album sur Northern Sound Records qui m'avait interpelle, on retrouve Tvangeste sur un label japonais et nous presente part la meme un nouveau visage et un album qui surpasse en matiere de black metal symphonique tout ce qui se fait sur le marche. Dans la droite lignee d'un Cradle Of Filth, Tvangeste s'est adjoint les services d'un orchestre symphonique, donnant a chacun des morceaux, plus de reliefs et de symphonisme grandiloquant. Ceux qui aiment les long passages [ comme Therion ] de violoncelles seront enchantes par toutes ces melodies qui nous prennent au coeur. Que ce soit du cote de l'orchestre, comme du cote rythmique ou des melodies, le nouveau Tvangeste et une ode a la beautee qu'il faut decouvrir imperativement. [Philippe Duarte]

TVANGESTE ar ett ryskt symfoniskt black metalband som slapper sin andra skiva. Debuten ”Damnation of Rergiomontum” verkar ha salt mycket bra och har medverkar hela Baltic Symphonic Orchestra. Bandet ser ut som ett gang vampyrlajvare, forutom keyboardisten Naturelle som ar en riktigt metalbabe.
Fran forsta tonen ar det kvinnliga korer, melodi och violiner. Mirons speciella rost anvands sedan flitigt liksom Cezars hart smattrande trummor och Naturelles keyboards. Det hela later minst i klass med mina favoriter SUBLIRITUM. Som svensk hor man aven en del THERION. Har blandas verkligen vackert och ont i en tilltalande mix. Att hitta favoritlatar gar ju men det ar den otroligt symfoniska helheten som dominerar. En stark kandidat till arsbastalistan.

From the first note on this is all about female choirs, melodies and violins. Miron?s characteristic voice is also made good use of which also goes for Cezars machine gun drums and Naturelle?s keyboards. It all sounds at least as good as my favourites SUBLIRITUM. Being a Swede I also detect a bit of THERION. This is really an appealing mix of beauty and evil. Finding favourite tracks is possible but the real treat is the dominating and unbelievably symphonic total. A strong candidate for the best of 2003-list.
I Tvangeste si definiscono alfieri del black metal orchestrale prussiano. Formatisi nel 1996, dopo il singolo "Blood Dreams" e il demo "Thinking..." hanno ottenuto un buon successo con l'album "Damnation Of Regiomontun". Questo lavoro ha venduto 5000 copie tra Russia, Bielorussia e Ucraina. Nel 2000 i Tvangeste sono stati eletti come la miglior band russa dell'anno. In seguito a svariati problemi e cambi di line-up, l'album successivo ha fatto fatica a venire alla luce. Per fortuna nel 2002 la situazione pare rasserenarsi e le registrazioni di "Firestorm" vengono portate a termine.
Questa e la line-up all'uscita del disco: Michael "Miron" Chirva (chitarra e voce), Naturelle Chirva (tastiere), Nikolay Kazmin (chitarra), Vano Maioroff (basso), Victoria Koullbachnava (tastiere e flauto) e Cezar "Czarek Mielko" (batteria). Attualmente un nuovo membro e entrato a far parte della band. Si tratta del bassista Max Naumoff, considerato un virtuoso dello strumento. Al suo arrivo, Vano Maioroff e passato alla chitarra ritmica.
La Worldchaos, l'etichetta giapponese che li ha messi sotto contratto, ha garantito al gruppo una buona promozione. Anche la copertina e di qualita sebbene le immagini rappresentate non siano il massimo della vita.
Volendo fare le cose in grande, per "Firestorm" i Tvangeste si sono circondati di numerosi ospiti: Olaa come voce solista, Ekaterina Sapogova come violino solista ed arrangiamento degli archi, la Baltic Symphony Orchestra ed il Prussian Chamber Choir.
Un breve brano malinconico suonato dagli archi prepara il terreno ad "Under The Black Raven's Wings". Vediamo subito quali sono i tratti caratteristici della musica dei Tvangeste. La canzone e un buon esempio di black metal sinfonico dagli arrangiamenti sofisticati. La voce di Miron e molto teatrale, non dissimile da quella di Dani dei Cradle Of Filth. Vivace ed aggressiva, riesce ad essere inquietante quando le sovraincisioni si fanno incalzanti. La musica e magniloquente soprattutto quando interviene l'orchestra o quando il coro canta in stile operistico. L'orchestrazione pomposa puo portare alla mente i Therion, anche se il quintetto russo e decisamente superiore alla band svedese. Mentre Johnsson e soci trasformano le loro ambizioni sinfoniche in pacchianeria bella e buona (mi spiace per i fan ma questa e la mia opinione), i Tvangeste dimostrano di avere un minimo di buon gusto in piu. Le sonorita ne risultano arricchite, una manna per chi adora questo genere, e le atmosfere si fanno variegate ed interessanti. La band e preparata tecnicamente ed ispirata. Peccato che l'assolo di chitarra sia stato mixato un po' basso.
"Birth Of The Hero" mette in mostra le altre due possibilita espressive del cantante: il narrato e l'utilizzo della voce pulita. Come per il brano precedente anche in questo caso la struttura compositiva e complessa, ricca di cambi di tempo e di atmosfera. La melodia e molto spiccata. Naturelle e Victoria sono abili a creare bizzarri passaggi di tastiera, anche se i richiami agli Arcturus si sprecano. Un piccolo punto a sfavore risulta dall'intervento del coro a meta brano: tanto maestoso quanto inutile.
Piu ricca di verve, ma non necessariamente piu veloce, e la successiva "Fire In Our Hearts". La traccia e caratterizzata da una tensione di fondo che si fa palpabile per tutta la sua durata. La melodia e meno efficace rispetto a quanto ascoltato in precedenza. La parte degli archi paga il dazio a "La Masquerade Infernale" (vedi "Ad Astra"): se in precedenza l'influenza di Sverd & Co. era soltanto accennata, qui si fa palese. Degna di interesse e la sezione in cui Victoria suona il flauto traverso. Un suono inedito e delicato, un'ulteriore colore per il quadro che i Tvangeste vogliono dipingere.
"Perkuno's Flame" e una canzone molto triste. Il ritmo veloce non riesce a nascondere la malinconia e l'astio di cui il testo e pregno. I versi sono umidi delle lacrime dei pagani sconfitti due volte, fisicamente e spiritualmente. Il violino solo, suonato dall'ospite Ekaterina Sapogova, comunica piu mestizia che mille parole. Mi complimento con i Tvangeste per l'abilita dimostrata nel coniugare la potenza con l'atmosfera. In "Perkuno's Flame" il risultato e grandioso e fa ben sperare per il futuro. Il talento c'e, deve soltanto maturare.
La speranza fa capolino anche testualmente. Allo scoramento del brano precedente si sostituisce lo spirito di vendetta di "Godless Freedom". I pagani sono stati sconfitti ma non sterminati. Il desiderio di riappropriarsi di quanto e perduto rende piu forti l'orgoglio ed il coraggio. Attraverso i passaggi tecnici e le deliziose coloriture delle tastiere, la canzone procede spedita e potente. Il finale e piu morbido ma pur sempre severo.
Una nervosa introduzione di archi caratterizza "Storm". Questa traccia e molto gradevole, completa di tutti gli attributi del black sinfonico piu melodico. Alcune band simbolo di questo genere farebbero carte false per appropriarsi dei diritti di questa canzone. Non che sia un capolavoro ma e almeno mossa da una fresca e sincera ispirazione.
E' necessario spendere qualche parola sull'ottimo lavoro strumentale della band. Tutti i musicisti sono discretamente tecnici e sciolti nell'esecuzione. In particolare, Cezar e un batterista preciso e potente.
"Tears (Tears will wash off the Blood from my Sword)" conclude il disco in maniera convincente. Tra i particolari degni di attenzione vanno segnalati i cori ad inizio brano. Anche in questo caso le atmosfere sono malinconiche e questo rende particolari i Tvangeste rispetto ad altre band di black sinfonico.
"Firestorm" e veramente un bell'album, piacevole ed emozionante. Alcuni passaggi sono forse un po' derivativi, altre volte c'e qualche caduta di tono. Globalmente pero non c'e da lamentarsi. Il gruppo e promettente e sin da quest'album si intravedono idee molto interessanti e personali. Ora sta alla band svilupparle a dovere.
Gli amanti del black sinfonico melodico possono acquistare "Firestorm" senza riserve. Ah, una cosa importante: e consigliata una visita al sito della band dove e anche possibile scaricare qualche brano.

Mutig vergleicht man das vorliegende Zweitwerk von TVANGESTE mit dem symphonischen black metal von CRADLE OF FILTH. Sänger Miron ist nämlich genau wie sein bekannter englischer Pendant ebenfalls solch ein kleiner fieser Giftzwerg, bei dem man beim Streicheln seines Kopfes überdeutlich die darunter verborgenen Hörner ertastet, und der mit zutiefst teuflisch klingenden Gekeife den Zuhörern das Blut in den Adern gefrieren lässt. Und auch die hohe Integrationsdichte echter klassischer Musiker und Sänger in das musikalische Gesamtbild lassen sich miteinander vergleichen.
Aber während die Jungs von der Insel mit ihren letzten Alben trotz aller Komplexität einen immer massenkompatibleren Sound kreierten, trotzen die 7 Russen von TVANGESTE jeglichen Hörkonventionen, und entsprechen somit eher dem kleinen, heimtückischen Bruder.
Als ich zum ersten Mal in "Firestorm" reinhörte, wurde ich förmlich erschlagen. Ein Extrem jagte das nächste, kaum hatte ich die eine infernalische Welle verdaut, rollte mir auch schon die nächste aus einer ganz anderen Richtung entgegen. Dennoch hielt ich durch, denn die Scheibe strahlte einfach eine unwiderstehliche Ausstrahlungskraft aus. Fast so wie eine schorfige Wunde, an der man trotzdem ständig herumpopelt, obwohl man genau weiss, dass es dadurch nur noch schlimmer wird.
Meine Suche nach einem roten Faden war auch nach dem zweiten und dritten Durchlauf erfolglos, aber irgendwann erkannte ich, dass es einfach keinen gibt. Und das es gut so ist. Stellt euch vor, ihr habt einen intensiven Traum. Da geht auch meist alles wirr durcheinander, dennoch ergibt es gerade in dem Moment einen logischen Sinn. Wenn ihr dann aber aufwacht, erscheint alles plötzlich ziemlich sinn- und zusammenhangslos.
"Firestorm" scheint sich in ebenjener Traumwelt abzuspielen. Grossartige Orchesterarrangements tummeln sich um böllernde Drums und abartige Vocals. Die Breaks kommen zahlreich und schleichen sich unverhofft von hinten an. Die Songs scheinen keinen Anfang und kein Ende zu haben. Von aussen betrachtet kann und wird das sehr eigenwillig anmuten, aber wenn man sich mittendrin im Geschehen befindet, ordnet sich die Fülle an Emotionen zu einer schlüssigen Geschichte von epischen Ausmassen.
"Firestorm" ist kein Album zum Tanzen, kein Album für Live-Auftritte und auch kein Album zum Autofahren oder zum mit der Freundin rummachen. "Firestorm" ist ein Kopfalbum zum Eintauchen, Fürchten und Analysieren. Und vor allem eins: Einzigartig!
This band comes from Prussia, and this is their latest
full length album release. They describe their music as
"orchestration black metal" and this is it. They play this kind
of music with influences from Cradle of Filth, Ancient Rites, Therion
and many more. But also they have put their own style in this music.
Also they have very good sound and a production in high level. Last but
not least they have an excellent booklet. So if you are into this kind of metal
you must check them.
This packaging must have cost a fortune. Japanese label World Chaos Production presents Russian metallers Tvangeste with a twenty four page, color, thick sheeted booklet, featuring photos and drawings, lyrics, and stories. Sure, there are stories of battles and swords but there isn't anything cheesy about Firestorm. This is obviously a band which spends the time, effort, and money to deliver a top quality product.
So what about the music, you ask? It's pretty darn good. There is an abundance of keyboards and the Baltic Symphonie Orchestra and Prussian Chamber Choir make guest appearances. Among the full time members are two keyboardists (Naturelle Chirva and Victoria Koulbachnaya), a flute player (Koulbachnaya), and a female vocalist (Olaa), so you know you can expect some exotic embellishments to the metal (nearest to black metal) attack. A brief symphonic "Introduction" leads in "Under the Black Ravens Wings"- musically it's an intricate (yet not technical) piece with an unusual black metal vocal style from guitarist Michael Chirva. Before long a full blown choir adds sophistication and Chirva gets into a more typical black metal rasp. This is aband which present music and ideas which are well thought out and executed. More of a folk influence shines through "Birth of a Hero". A brutal gallop dominates "Fire in Our Hearts", and a rapid paced cadence takes "Godless Freedom" past Cradle Of Filth territory. There is no good point of reference for Tvangeste. The full blown orchestral pieces defy metal's brutality. You could say there's some Dimmu Borgir and Therion in Firestorm, there is a high level of class and sophistication at work here.

Recensione di Marco Gallarati L’intento dei sovietici Tvangeste, originari di Kaliningrad, appare evidente in ogni aspetto di questo loro secondo lavoro: in “Firestorm” si cerca di far rivivere in tutto e per tutto il mito prussiano, tornando indietro nel tempo fino al 1255, quando la Prussia venne assalita e conquistata dalle orde Cristiane, le quali imposero la croce al popolo di quelle regioni senza pero riuscire a spegnere la fiamma del dio Perkuno, sempre luminosa e duratura, guida spirituale di quest’antica stirpe. Ci si trova di fronte, quindi, ad un disco di pagan metal a tutti gli effetti, almeno a livelli lirico/concettuali…per quanto riguarda la musica, invece, il discorso cambia completamente: l’etichetta Worldchaos Productions introduce i Tvangeste con un inesatto “Therion meets Cradle Of Filth”, in quanto, pur essendo evidente l’influenza derivante dai vampiri britannici, maestri nel riproporre passaggi maestosamente teatrali, il paragone con la band di Christopher Johnsson e, a mio parere, un po’ esagerato: non bastano, infatti, la presenza della Baltic Symphonic Orchestra al gran completo (con la prima violinista Ekaterina Sapogova a mettersi ben in luce) oppure voci soprano, tenore e baritono, per riuscire a ricreare le stesse sinistre atmosfere che sono (o forse erano?) in auge all’act svedese; diciamo, piuttosto, che sono i nostri Rhapsody a tornare alla mente, durante l’ascolto dell’album, soprattutto nei momenti in cui la parte folk-sinfonica viene piu in superficie. I Tvangeste, che si presentano come quintetto ma che, alla luce dei fatti, sono molti di piu, hanno nella coppia di coniugi Chirva la mente pensante: Miron e Naturelle (suggerisco ai lettori di sesso maschile di dare una sbirciatina al sito della band per constatare il fascino di quest’ultima…) sono infatti autori di tutte le composizioni di “Firestorm”, eccezion fatta per “Fire In Our Hearts”, ad opera del chitarrista Nikolay Kazmin, e che comunque non si discosta affatto dalle restanti song. Il concept trattato dona al lavoro un’uniformita necessaria ed invidiabile e, tutto sommato, permette di apprezzare senza troppa fatica la musica in esso contenuta: fin dall’iniziale, immancabile introduzione sinfonica, si respira un’epica atmosfera di grandeur che esplode, nel pieno della sua forza, nella buonissima “Raven (Under The Black Raven’s Wings”) e che riesce a mantenersi vivace per tutta la durata dell’album. C’e poco altro da segnalare, dato che i brani ricalcano tutti, piu o meno, le stesse coordinate e, quando si parla di black metal orchestrale, non c’e molto da spiegare: musica classica che sposa bene le parti aggressive del black meno opprimente, condito da vocalizzi di vario genere e cambi d’atmosfera come se piovesse. Tutto qua. La produzione davvero “bombastica” e solo un motivo in piu per dare a “Firestorm” un 7 meritato. Assolutamente non di piu, pero, e per il futuro dovranno inventarsi qualcosa di particolarmente speciale, se non vorranno ripetersi all’infinito e diventare banali.
Was kennt man an russische Musik? Kalinka Kalinka... ja ok der Don Kosaken Chor und noch? Leningrad Cowboys. Schon und was an Metal? Mir fallt spontan als Liebhaber dieser Musikrichtung nichts ein... bis ich Tvangeste auf einem Legacy-Sampler horte. Der russische Export aus Prussien (Prussien ist dieses kleine Landstuck, was abgetrennt von Russland zwischen Polen und Litauen liegt). Wie gut das es Atlanten gibt, dann wissen wir ja schon mal auf die Herkunft der Damen und Herren dieses Projektes eine Antwort. Auch der Name wirkt etwas merkwurdig: Was oder wer ist Tvangeste? Tvangeste ist eine kleine Siedlung die von Teutonischen (Deutschen) Rittern im Jahre 1255 niedergebrannt wurde. Hm... is ja interessant. Und was machen die? Metal... Prussian Metal. Prussian Metal ist eine Art Black Metal. Es ist schwer zu beschreiben, aber 5000 verkaufte (ja, sowas soll es selbst in der Ex-UdSSR geben) Kopien in den fernen Landen hinter Polen sprechen eine deutliche Srache: das muss gut sein. Also frisch ran ans Werk und die Scheibe eifrig durchgehort: Man konnte quasi Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, Bal Sagoth und die neuen Summoning-Platten in einen Topf werfen, umruhren und das Ergebnis als Tvangeste vorstellen. Man konnte allerdings auch Haggard nehmen und sie sich schwarzmetallisch und mit ein wenig mehr Wums vorstellen. Aber jetzt mal direkt zur CD: Der Silberling erzahlt musikalisch untermalt eine traurige Geschichte des Landes und der Unterdruckung durch alle moglichen Leute wie Christen, Orthodoxe und und und. Dieser melancholischer Faden zieht sich wie ein rotes Band durch das ganze Album, und gibt dem Album den notigen Schliff. Die Platte ist sehr homogen und geht direkt ineinander uber, man kann gar nicht nur einen Titel horen, nach jedem Track ist das Verlangen, dieses Meisterwerk weiterzuhoren. Ich lechzte geradezu den nachsten Titel zu horen! Die abwechselnden Parts zwischen Violinen, Gitarren, Floten, zarte Frauenstimmen, Gekrachze, Blastbeats, Breaks, Tempowechsel steigern zusatzlich die enorme Wucht mit der einen das Album trifft. Meine Eltern waren erschrocken, da sie dachten das ich jetzt von Metal auf Klassik ungestiegen bin, allerdings konnten die selbst einen gewissen Reiz der Musik nicht verneinen (immerhin komme beide aus der Zeit der Beatles). Es fielen solche Worte ‚schon’, ‚angenehm’ und ‚gut zu horen’. Beim besten Willen konnt ich auch keine Anspieltipps geben, weil das ganze Album sehr fliessend ist, es sind halt keine stand-alone-hits. Fazit: Was Dimmu Borgir, C.o.F. nicht hinbekommen, schaffen Tvangeste. Wenn diese Band in Europa noch bekannter werden, konnen Onkel Shagrath und sein Kumpel Dani einpacken. Dieses Album klingt nicht kommerziell, besitzt ein gutes Konzept und vor allem Herz. Mit dem gesunden Mix aus Zartheit, Harte, Melancholie, Wildheit und Ursprunglichkeit hat das Quintett aus Prussien wohl eins der besten Symphonic BM-Konzeptalben produziert. Die Prasenz im Netz ist einfach wundervoll... vollgeproppt mit MP3s, Videos, Infos usw usw usw. Fur meinen neuen Oststern am Himmel 10 Punkte. Ehre, dem Ehre gebuhrt!
Bands aus Russland zahlen (noch?) zur Seltenheit, aber angesichts der Qualitat von Bands wie Nokturnal Mortum oder eben Tvangeste darf sich das gerne andern! Wem sich schon beim Lesen der Besetzung bzw. Gastmusiker der Magen umdreht, der sei vor voreiligen Schlussen gewarnt! Denn auch wenn Tvangeste hier mehr oder weniger bekannte Zutaten verwenden, ist „Firestorm“ doch ein sowohl eigenstandiges als auch mehr als gelungenes Werk. Wo andere Bands mit Hilfe mehr oder weniger billig klingender Keyboards und Synthesizer Soundlocher zustopfen, fiedelt hier ein gleichberechtigtes Orchester samt Chor mit, ohne das beide Elemente zu weit im Vordergrund stehen. Als Gegensatz dazu spielt die eigentliche Band Dark / black metal im Midtempo-Bereich mit jeder Menge Breaks und ruhigeren Parts, wahrend der das Orchester wieder auftrumpfen kann. Und auch wenn man mit dem obligatiorischen Keifgesang von Sanger / Gitarrist Miron nun wahrlich nichts neues zu bieten hat, ergibt sich im Gesamtbild ein durch und durch ausgereiftes Stuck dunkler Tonkunst, welches den Vergleich mit etablierten Szenegro?en nicht zu scheuen braucht. Herausragendste Eigenschaft durften neben den Texten uber russische Geschichte die klagenden, einerseits beinahe depressiven, auf der anderen Seite aber auch wieder hoffenden Melodien sein, die den Anschein erwecken, sie gehoren einfach zu dieser Musik. Wem die Geige bei „Perkuno`s Flame“ keine Schauer uber den Rucken jagt, der sollte sich dringend mal untersuchen lassen! Doch auch der Rest der Songs ist beileibe kein Einheitsbrei, und die auf der Homepage als Downloads zur Verfugung stehenden Songs („Under The Black Raven`s Wings“ – cooler Opener, „Storm“ – einer der minimal schwacheren Songs und das zugegebenerma?en streckenweise stark nach Cradle Of Filth klingende „Tears Will Wash Off The Blood“) sollten als Entscheidungshilfe reichen, obwohl man hier (wohl mit Absicht) nicht die besten Songs als Appetithappchen reicht! Sicher entdeckt man hie und da Zitate von Bands wie Therion in der Theli-Phase, Cradle Of Filth oder auch Graveworm. Nichtsdestotrotz ist „Firestorm“ ein klasse Album, welches sich alle, die sich die letzten Alben von COF oder Dimmu Borgir zugelegt haben ebenfalls in ihren Schrank stellen sollten! Sehr geil!
TVANGESTE machen es einem nicht einfach. Beim allerersten Anhoren war ich gehalten, diese Band als weitere Dimmu of Filth Kopie abzutun und war mit gewiss, einen schnell geschriebenen Verriss abliefern zu konnen. Aber je ofter die Scheibe rotierte, desto mehr eroffnete sich mir die vielschichtige Klasse, welche das Album abliefert! Zuerst fallen die orchestralen Parts auf, welche eben NICHT aus dem Computer stammen, sondern vom Baltischen Symphonie Orchester eingespielt wurden. Und das klingt halt komplett anders als Synthi-Sounds. Naturlich werden bei symphonischen black metal mit teilweise Frauengesang sofort Assoziationen zu CRADLE OF FILTH geweckt und naturlich kommen TVANGESTE (noch) nicht an die englischen Meister dieses Faches dran. Aber dennoch ist es sehr beeindruckend, was hier abgeliefert wurde. Die Band versteht es mit Tempiwechsel den Sound lebendig und spannend zu erhalten und die Variationen in der Stimme tun ihr ubriges, Langeweile bei diesem Album zu einem Fremdwort verkommen zulassen. Der wohl dosierte Einsatz eines Chores lasst dann wieder Erinnerungen an THERION wach werden. Alles in allem ist „Firestorm“ ein Album, welches Beachtung verdient. Zumal die Band wirklich auf viele Kleinigkeiten geachtet haben. So endet der letzte Song „from my sword“ mit dem Thema des Intros, so das man da Gefuhl eines Deja Vu bekommt und das Album von einer Klammer umschlossen wird. So verkommt ein Intro mal wenigstens nicht zum Selbstzweck! Man sollte der Band definitiv eine Chance geben, hier wachst was Gro?eres heran.
Anlasslich des in Kurze folgenden Interviews, mochte ich die Gelegenheit nutzen, eine der bemerkenswertesten Metal Bands aus Russland mit ihrem letzten Opus kurz vorzustellen. Genaugenommen kommt die Band aus Kaliningrad, jener Enklave zwischen Polen und Litauen. Wie auch die baltischen Pagan-Helden Skyforger stutzen sich Tvangeste textlich auf die kulturelle Vergangenheit ihrer Heimat. Deshalb an dieser Stelle auch ein kurzer Ausflug in die Geschichte: 1255 eroberte der Deutsche Orden das Sammland und zerstorte auch die machtige Burg Tuwangste. Zu Fu?en der Burg lag die Siedlung Tuwangste, ein ansehnlicher Markt- und Hafenort der samlandischen Prussen, die im 11. und 12. Jahrhundert regen Handel mit den Wikingern betrieben. In diesen zeitlichen Rahmen sind die Texte der prussischen Band angesiedelt. Die Trauer und der Zorn uber die Zerstorung der Heimat durch christliche Armeen kombiniert mit philosophischen Ansatzen uber die Freiheit des Geistes und der Bedeutung des Menschen auf dieser Welt. Musikalisch spielen neben Emotionen auch Extreme eine entscheidende Rolle. Extrem nicht nur, weil es sich formal um eine Black/Pagan-Band handelt und der Gesang von Miron einen Filzknodel-ahnlichen Stil hat. Nein, extrem auch, weil sich die Wirkung von Firestorm vor allem im Kopf abspielt und die entstehenden Bilder eine Berg- und Talfahrt menschlicher Empfindungen projizieren. Hier kommt zum ersten mal das Baltic Symphonic Orchestra ins Spiel, das mit einer erhabenen, zutiefst melancholischen „Introduction“ (meines Erachtens eines der besten Intros der letzten Jahre) den Feuersturm eroffnet. Einen Rabschrei durchbricht die traumerische Atmosphare – die infernale Reise hat begonnen. Die Kontraste aus dem giftigen Vocals, den bombastischen Orchester-Arrangements, die im Chaos der Schlacht verzweifelt klingende, zarte weibliche Stimme, der Prussian Chamber Choir, die scharfen Gitarren, die gnadenlos bollernden Drums, die sorgsam eingesetzten Keys – sie alle mogen auf den ersten Blick wie ein wirres chaotisches Getummel erscheinen, doch sie erzeugen eine unglaubliche Anziehungskraft, der man sich nur unmoglich entziehen kann. Firestom erzahlt eine faszinierende und fesselnde Geschichte, die durch das Motiv des Intros und Mirons letzten Worte abgeschlossen wird: „I see the Raven... His wings are ousting sky He's soaring above the death like a black shadow That's the soul of Prussian land. Ca fait bien longtemps qu'un groupe ne m'etait pas apparut comme une revelation de la trempe de Tvangeste. Une formation deja presque star chez elle en Russie avec plusieurs albums a son actif. Une veritable gifle… Worldchaos Records est decidement un label qui a le dont pour m'en mettre plein la gueule. Ce " firestorm " au concept base sur les Anciennes Legendes Prusse ne peut vous laisser insensible ! Un incroyable black metal orchestral aux milles finesses et facettes, une oeuvre grandiloquente de compositions comme on en a rarement eu l'occasion d'en entendre appuyees par une production monstrueuse (Well-Known Polish Metal Studio : Vader, Behemoth, Lux Occulta, Christ Agony, Decapiteted, Dies Irae, …). True Black metalleux, cet opus n'est pas pour vous. Certains diront, black metal de gonzesses, moi je dis black metal ingenieux et emotionnel. Ces mots n'evoquent peut etre rien pour vous, alors imaginez 9 titres tous aussi varies les uns que les autres ou orchestrations au violon, piano, et flute se melent a un Black Trash de haute volee, pour nous laisser de temps en temps dans un registre purement Baroque comme le fait si bien Haggard, a l'image de se splendide " Fire in our Hearts ". Cet ouvrage s'inspire du meilleur de tous les styles de Metal, la puissance de Dimmu Borgir, des envolees lyriques digne du plus grand Therion, et meme mieux (si si c'est possible, avec la Chambre des C?urs de Prusse) ou d'autres meme a la Rhapsody, la virtuosite de composition de The Convenant epoque " Nexus Polaris ", des ambiances melancoliques comme a pu le faire Cradle of Filth, ou encore des passages melodramatiques style Bande Original de film. Et enfin, je n'oublierai pas de souligner l'incroyable performance de Michael Chirva au chant avec d'innombrables voix que les specialistes de chaque style envieraient incontestablement. En quelques mots, a l'image de son artwork, " Firestorm " s'avere travaille jusque dans ses moindres details et ses plus petits recoins… Comme souvent, fort de sa fraicheur, l'eleve depasse souvent le maitre, je n'ai aucune honte a vous affirmer que cet album compte parmi les meilleurs albums jamais enregistres laissant tous les groupes pre cites loin derriere eux. Mon dieux que cet album merite toutes les eloges dont je l'affuble… Un album a ne pas mettre entre toutes les mains, et surtout pas des compositeurs contemporains qui pourraient bien s'en inspirer grandement !
Prussian Grand Orchestration Black Metal!!! Esa es la definicion de estilo que nos manda el sello Worldchaos Productions de esta banda Rusa oriunda de Moscu. Y en lo de orquestacion no estan nada de equivocados ya que en este, su segundo disco cuentan con la participacion de la Baltic Symphonic Orchestra y del Coro Prusiano de Camara, quienes hacen su trabajo de excelente manera, sin olvidar a una bella violinista llamada Ekaterina y una vocalista angelical llamada Olaa que prestan sus servicios para crear esta pieza de leyendas rusas. Hablando de la musica que es lo que importa, es como una especie de Bal Sagoth con la lirica orientada a las leyendas y mistica rusa pero tambien a la sangre y las batallas en menor medida, no se si me explico bien, Tvangeste tiene todos los elementos de esa banda, guitarras netamente black metal (del no tan grim y demoniaco por cierto), narraciones al principio de algunos temas que parecen sacadas de peliculas de terror, inmensos coros que parecen cantados por soldados mas que por un Coro de Camara y sonidos de el viento moviendo las ramas de los arboles y dandonos la sensacion de estar en un bosque escuchando esos riffs poderosos. En todo caso la voz de Miron se parece mucho a la de Dani Filth, no alcanzando ese agudisimo chillido casi inaguantable del vocal de COF. Lo mas dominante en la musica son los teclados que manejan nada menos que 2 hermosas damas: Naturelle (esposa de Miron) y Victoria que ademas toca la flauta en algunos parajes del disco. De los temas que mas destacan en el disco esta "Under the Black Ravens Wings" que es a mi gusto el mejor de todos; "Birth of the Hero" no menos majestuoso por cierto; "Fire in Our Herats" donde Victoria se luce con una pieza instrumental de flauta en el medio del tema y "Godless Freedom" donde mas se notan los coros matizados por la horrorosa voz de Miron dandole un toque especial que se repite en varios temas del disco. En conclusion la produccion del album es excelente, con un booklet a todo color con hasta una explicacion de las leyendas rusas que arman la lirica de los temas, una duracion mas que prudente de no mas de 50 minutos y un manejo de los instrumentos que no se opacan entre si en ningun segundo del album, quizas este album no vaya a romper barreras por la inmensidad de bandas que existen asi hoy en dia, pero es una pieza que da gusto escucharla de principio a fin sin aburrirse, lo que es mucho decir. Jedyna w swoim rodzaju mieszkanka emocji (niesamowite, przepelnione wsciekloscia wokale), majestatu (symfoniczne brzmienie) i maestrii instrumentalnej (wyrafinowane solowki). Pierwsza plyta Tvangeste "Damnation of Rergiomontum" zostala swietnie przyjeta zarowno przez dziennikarzy jak i fanow, zespol zdazyl tez wystapic przed Baltycka Orkiestra Symfoniczna! Grand Orchestration black metal szczegolnie polecany fanom Cradle of Filth i Therion!!! Na perkusji zespol wspiera Cezar (Dominium, Bright Ophidia).
Tvangeste - pro me vcelku neznama kapela z Ruska. Nicmene me totalne prekvapili svym uz druhym CD – „Firestorm“. Podle promolistu existuje kapela uz 7 let, na konte ma demo, mini CD a debut. Nemam moznost srovnavat vyvoj, protoze neznam starsi pociny (debutu se mimochodem prodalo pres 3000 kousku, tak hovori promolist), ovsem novinka je ohromujici. Nechce se mi verit, ze tohle ma na svedomi ruska kapela. Mam ruskou scenu spojenou spise s vetsi zivelnosti, horsi kvalitou nahravek a malou preciznosti. Tato deska nesplnuje ani jedno z uvedeneho, prave naopak. Vznikala 2 roky a natocena byla ve dvou studiich v Polsku, kde nataci mimo jine take Vader, Behemoth apod. Samozrejme ze zvuk je kvalitni. Stylove hovori promolist o orchestralnim black metalu, mixu Therion a Cradle of Filth a ja nemuzu nez souhlasit. Vice bych se ale priklanel k tem Cradlum. CD opravdu nechybi nic, proste precizne provedeno. Pri nataceni kapela spolupracovala s Baltickym symfonickym orchestrem, takze odtud to prirovnani k Therionu, musim ale uznat, ze smycce na nahravce opravdu jedou. Vsechny notove party pro orchestr ma na svedomi klavesistka a violistka kapely, coz je take pozoruhodne. Album obsahuje 8 songu o celkove delce pres 45 minut. Po kratkem intru se hned rozjede opus, ktery ma 7 dilu a opravdu stoji za to. Krome smyccu na desce exceluje take velmi vydareny zensky vokal s opernim nadechem, sekunduje blackovemu muzskemu chraplako-jecaku a taktez zde dominuji brilantni klavesy. Temne blackove melodie podporuji steny kytar a rychla tempa se stridaji s s pomalymi pasazemi vystrizenymi jako z komorniho kvarteta. Tahle deska me zaujala hned na prvni poslech a musim rict, ze menim nazor na Ruskou scenu. Album nabubnoval session bubenik z polske kapely Dominium. Po tahanicich s Norskym vydavatelem nakonec deska vysla s rocnim zpozdenim u japonskeho labelu World Chaos. Nevim kdo zajistuje distribuci po Evrope, nicmene tohle CD opravdu stoji za to si sehnat, super vec!
Tvangeste - Firestorm Metal Mind / World Chaos - Interessant fur die Liebhaber von Bands wie Cradle Of Filth, Therion und Nightwish durfte die osteuropaische Band Tvangeste, die mit "Firestorm" kurzlich ihr zweites Fulltime-Album veroffentlichte, sein. Black-Metal mit orchestralen Arrangements und klassischen Passagen in Reinkultur. Die siebenkopfige, russische Band Tvangeste wurde 1996 von Sanger und Gitarrist Miron gegrundet und schlug sich die ersten Jahre mit einer Single und einem Demo durch das harte Musikbusiness, das ihnen den Weg nach oben nicht gerade leicht machen sollte. Trotz positiver Resonanzen durch Fans und Presse gingen ganze funf Jahre ins Land, bis 2001 das Debut-Album "Damnation Of Regiomontum" uber das norwegische Label Valgalder Records weltweit veroffentlicht wurde. Bereits im selben Jahr begannen Miron und Keyboarder Naturelle damit, neue Stucke fur das zweite Werk zu schreiben, welches nun uber das japanische Label World Chaos Productions erschien. Ein ruhiges, von klassischer Musik gepragtes, Streicher-Intro eroffnet "Fire Storm", gefolgt vom Titel "Under The Black Ravens Wings". Hier wird gleich die Marschrichtung der Band aufgezeigt: Fiese Black-Metal Vocals der gema?igteren Art und Weise treffen auf blackmetallische Gitarrenwande, gekonntes Drumming, verspielte Keyboardpassagen und wenig spater auch auf den auffalligsten Teil der Musik von Tvangeste, namlich die Klange des Baltic Symphony Orchesters und des Prussian Chamber Chors. Das da Vergleiche mit den Kompositionen von Therion nicht ausbleiben konnen ist klar und die klassischen, hohen weiblichen Gesangsstimmen lassen an Nightwish denken. Der rein metallische Anteil der Musik von Tvangeste und vor allem der Gesang rechtfertigen den Vergleich mit Cradle Of Filth, wobei Mirons Vocals weitaus allgemeinvertraglicher ausfallen als die nervtotend hohen Screams des Cradle-Sangers. Auch in den folgenden sechs Titeln treffen echte Streicherarrangements auf wuchtige Gitarrenwande, Highspeed-Passagen aber auch ruhige, rein akustische Momente. Als Anspieltips mag ich nebst dem Opener auf die Titel "Birth Of The Hero" und "Tears Will Wash Off The Blood" verweisen, in denen die Mixtur aus Metal und Klassik besonders gelungen ist und ein hochinteressantes, musikalisch anspruchsvolles aber auch manchmal etwas gewohnungsbedurftiges Bild hinterla?t. Die ubrigen Tracks laufen im Kielwasser dieser Zugpferde eben so mit, konnen mich jedoch nicht ganz so uberzeugen und lassen doch hier und da doch mal etwas Langeweile aufkommen.
Die Black/ Death-Schiene ist nun wirklich nicht meine Welt, aber diese CD gefiel mir sofort und zwar vom ersten bis zum letzten Stuck! TVANGESTE sind aus der russischen Exklave Kaliningrad. Dieses Stuck Land, gelegen zwischen den baltischen Staaten und Polen ist heute eine Freihandelszone und gehorte fruher zum Deutschen Reich. Genauer gesagt war es ein Teil Preu?ens. Seltsamerweise bestehen TVANGESTE darauf Preu?en zu sein. Oder ist das nur ein komischer Einfall der japanischen Plattenfirma, bei der sie unter Vertrag sind? Ah? Russen, eingeklemmt zwischen Litauen und Polen, bei einer japanischen Plattenfirma? Alles reichlich seltsam, aber das macht gar nix. Der russische (preu?ische?) Schwermut macht sich im black metal Bereich recht gut und wenn man daruber hinwegsieht, dass die Produktion etwas zu drucklos ist, mit den Gitarren zu weit im Hintergrund und dass die Jungs und Madels ordentlich bei CRADLE OF FILTH und THERION klauen kann man sich an einem verdammt guten Album erfreuen! Die klassischen Parts kommen vom Baltischen Symphonie Orchester und vom Preu?ischen Kammerchor. Einzelne Stucke hervor zu heben lohnt sich nicht. 'Firestorm' wirkt als Ganzes, fast wie eine Symphonie in acht Teilen. Hasserfulltes Gekreische im Wechsel mit hervorragendem klassischem Gesang, tolle Streichereinsatze, Blastbeats und machtige Chore: Es ist wirklich alles da, was eine geile melodische Black Metal-Scheibe braucht! Ich kann den Feuersturm aus Preu?en allen Schwarzheimern warmstens ans Herz legen. Und wer auf abgefahrene Musik steht, sollte ruhig auch mal reinhoren!
TVANGESTE "FireStorm" (Black/Gothic Metal) (World Chaos Productions/Metal Mind Records) Schon das Erstwerk "Damnation of Regiomontum" der Band aus Russland konnte begeistern. Langer als gedacht musste man auf den Nachfolger warten, aber das warten hat sich gelohnt. Ein Feuerwerk orchestralen Black/Gothic Metals ist entfacht. Mit Unterstutzung des Prussian Chamber Chors werden zudem klasse Akzente im Gesang gesetzt (normales black metal Gekrachze wird unterstutzt von weiblichen und mannlichen Chorgesangen). Die Musik, an sich schon sehr abwechslungsreich arrangiert, erhalt etliche zusatzliche Glanzpunkte durch den Einsatz des Baltic Symphony Orchesters. Klingt wie ein billiger Abklatsch von Dimmu Borgir oder Cradle of Filth??? Weit gefehlt, denn was z.B. das Orchester angeht, haben Dimmu und Cradle nicht halb so viel Bombast und dustere Eleganz hinbekommen. Die Musikbezeichnung Orchestral Metal erhalt hier eine andere Dimension. In Verbindung mit der kompelxen dusteren Musik sind die Elemete aus der klassichen Musik ein echtes Markenzeichen von Tvangeste geworden. Man braucht schon einige Durchlaufe, um der Musik Herr zu werden, aber am Ende steht ein wundervoller, dunkler Musikkosmos, den man nicht mehr missen mochte. Banda formada em 1996 (com formacao completa apenas em 98), o Tvangeste lanca seu segundo album, Firestorm, posterior ao bem sucedido Damnation of Regiomontum, cerca de 45 minutos divididos em 8 faixas de um belissimo symphonic black metal. O album inicia-se com uma bela introducao ao violino e apos a primeira musica do album, "Raven" (musica que possui clip), a primeira impressao que temos e "oh, mais um Cradle of Filth". Bem, e dificil fugir da comparacao, mas definitivamente o Tvangeste nao e uma copia, e tais impressoes vao perdendo sua forca com o decorrer do album, com as sete musicas que contam o passado do povo da Prussia, seu espirito e batalhas. Na quinta faixa, "Perkuno's Flame", a segunda mais longa do album (proximo de 7 minutos), e possivel ver com clareza o grande potencial da banda, belas passagens de teclado, violino e maior variacao nos vocais, nesta musica que e um dos pontos altos do album, entre as 7 belas musicas compostas pelo vocalista/guitarrista Miron e sua esposa Naturelle (teclado). O album segue com "Godless Freedom", com um vocal mais agressivo, assim como a musica em si. A seguir, "Storm", de certa forma uma faixa peculiar, ha maior variacao nos vocais nesta faixa, em algums momentos mais doentios, tipo de vocais mais presente em algumas bandas de dark metal (talvez pelo fato dessa musica ser uma das unicas que alem de compostas tiveram sua letra escrita pelo vocalista/guitarrista Miron). Finalizando o album, a faixa "Tears Will Wash Off the Blood From My Sword", que possui uma das mais belas letras do album, vale ainda destacar a parte grafica do mesmo, que e excelente. Firestorm e um excelente album que demonstra o amadurecimento da banda em relacao ao seu debut. Recomendado para todos que apreciem black metal sinfonico, pode-se encontrar neste album desde passagens mais agressivas ate corais, violinos, flauta, que sem duvida ira agradar aos fas do genero, e nas palavras do Tvangeste: "Em nome da mente, abra seu coracao para nossas palavras...pelo fogo de nossa terra voces terao uma tempestade em suas mentes e almas" Por Emanuel Seagal
Le Black symphonique qui fait fureur en Russie avec des chorales, du violon, du piano, des harmonies… mais surtout un concept inspire fortement par Cradle of Filth. Mais, bon, en Russie, depuis l’effondrement du systeme communiste, les kids cherchent a comprendre la defonce du metal dans tous ses axes possibles. Souvenez-vous de Metallica, lors de leur passage en Russie, le delire total ! Cela s’ applique volontiers a ce groupe de black metal symphonique avec de longues melodies, avec un chanteur qui s’egosille dans les aigus… Une immense chorale abyssale et des blastbeats a vous crucifier les tympans.
